First off, I want to say that I am 100% behind any woman who chooses to breast feed. It is a natural, healthy way to nourish your infant and give them a good start to life. However, once you reach a certain age, your focus is much less on the healthy factor and more on the “you want me to drink what?”

PETA came out today calling on the ice cream gods [AKA Ben and Jerry] to use human breast milk in their ice cream instead of cow’s milk. Like I said, I am all for breast feeding and healthy alternatives to the status quo, but come on PETA. What are you thinking? I think Ben and Jerry said it best when they said a mother’s milk is best used for her child. How exactly do they expect that to work? 100’s of lactating women coming in with milk that has to be tested for drugs and possible diseases, like AIDS. There would be an epidemic of a lot more than diabetes, allergies, constipation, obesity, and prostate and ovarian cancer, as stated in the letter from PETA to Ben and Jerry. So for now, I will continue to eat my chocolate fudge brownie Ben and Jerry’s ice cream with a spoon and good old-fashioned cow’s milk.  Here’s to MOO!

Sound familiar? Well it should, because lately everything seems to be falling down around us. Banking institutions are going under, the stock market is plummeting and Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are under investigation for fraud. What is this world coming to? To make matters seemingly worse, our government is going to spend 700 Billion dollars to help bail these “guys” out of the mess they themselves created. It’s the ultimate mulligan. There is a lot of debate as to how exactly this money will be spent and what restrictions will be put on this dollar figure. The heads of the companies that will be bailed out stand to make a large sum of money and I agree with those that are saying their benefits should be capped at $400,000 [which, by the way, is the annual salary of the U.S. President]. It will be interesting to see how all this shakes out in the end. The bottom line for me is…this is OUR money you are spending—spend it wisely.

There is nothing to fear, but fear itself August 1, 2008

FDR spoke these words in his first inaugural address March 4, 1933. Fear. What is it? It is to be afraid, anxious, agitated, apprehensive. It can also mean to be in awe of something–like the fear of God.

One such study, recently featured on Yahoo!, researched fear and people’s reactions to it. They came up with some astounding findings [insert sarcasm here]. They found that people’s eyes widened and their mouths opened when they were afraid. Wow! How much money was spent on that?!?!?

Now I know what we should fear…pointless studies that tell us the obvious!
